This is a new residential development in the Hampstead Conservation Area, set within the grounds of an existing Edwardian building.
The development of 63,000 sq ft (GIA) will provide 34 luxury apartments of one, two and three bedrooms, including 28 for private sale of which 4 are affordable units, along with basement parking and storage. The scheme has been submitted to the local Borough council for planning consent.
The scheme involves the demolition of an unsympathetic 1960’s addition, refurbishment and extensive alterations to the existing Edwardian house, construction of several new buildings volumes, and extensive landscape works to create a substantial new house set within large open grounds.
A contemporary traditional approach is proposed, which is informed by the history of the site and responds to the existing local vernacular, in particular the characteristic material and details of the Hampstead Conservation Area. The new buildings fall into three main parts; the main body of the addition; the building volume to the West, that is closely coupled to the existing Edwardian House to which it makes reference, and the existing building.
